Business Requirement

The client required conversion of a 26,000 sq.m heritage structure into a hotel. Condition mapping, structural strengthening, and renovation planning called for accurate as-built drawings and BIM modeling at LOD 300.

Proposed Solution

3D laser scanning was carried out across the entire 26,000 sq.m structure, capturing 2,545 scans processed and registered within 3 days at 2.5mm accuracy. Photogrammetry was also conducted to generate orthophotos of each section and elevation, enabling the conservation architect to accurately measure cracks, defects, and damage on site. As-built drawings were completed in 25 days, followed by BIM modeling in LOD 300 over 20 days using a team of 3 BIM engineers.

Challenges Faced

Poor lighting conditions across the large structure and constant human movement on site added complexity to the scanning process, requiring careful planning to maintain data accuracy.

Outcome

Delivery of precise as-built drawings and an LOD 300 BIM model, giving the client a reliable foundation to plan structural strengthening and execute the heritage-to-hotel conversion.
