Business Requirement

The client required expansion of an operational mall to utilize 30% additional open space, along with realignment of all MEPF services back to the AHU and pump rooms.

Proposed Solution

3D laser scanning was carried out across all levels using scaffolding and tables to capture elevated areas accurately. Scanning was conducted at night to avoid heavy daytime human movement, with ceiling cutouts arranged by a carpenter to support access. The captured data was developed into an as-built BIM model, which was clash-checked against the existing BIM model to plan the expansion accurately.

Challenges Faced

Poor lighting conditions across the mall required careful planning during scanning. Heavy human movement in the parking area during the day, along with continuous car movement, required extra caution to prevent equipment damage while scanning remained ongoing.

Outcome

Delivery of an accurate as-built BIM model with clash detection against existing systems, enabling the client to confidently plan and execute the mall expansion.
