Business Requirement

The client required an accurate inspection report for the tank, covering unrolling, roundness, verticality, and tank volume measurements.

Proposed Solution

3D laser scanning was carried out inside the tank to capture its internal geometry. The tank was kept empty, and the manhole was kept open for 24 hours in advance to ensure suitable conditions for the scanning activity. Two high-quality scans at a 2 mm point distance resolution were performed to capture the required tank geometry. This 3D laser scanning for tank calibration provided the dimensional data required for accurate inspection and measurement.

Challenges Faced

The scanner had to be positioned upside down inside the tank due to the site conditions. The scanning team had to remain close to the equipment and manually hold the scanner during the scanning process, making the activity physically demanding and requiring careful handling.

Outcome

Delivery of accurate 3D scan data and an inspection report covering tank unrolling, roundness, verticality, and volume, providing reliable dimensional information for tank calibration.
