Business Requirement

The client, a heritage consultant, required mapping of a 400-acre heritage site in Orchha for landscaping planning. The site, an island-like formation surrounded by a river, contains over 10 temples, forts, and palaces, and the documentation was needed to support a DPR submission for UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Proposed Solution

We deployed an RTK-grade drone for photogrammetric survey along with DGPS for site documentation, covering the entire 400-acre site as well as a 300-metre buffer zone around it to support the DPR preparation and government submission.

Challenges Faced

Several areas of the site were inaccessible due to the surrounding river and sloped terrain outside the fort walls, making it difficult to place ground control points. Scorching summer heat also limited fieldwork to specific time windows each day.

Outcome

The project was delivered successfully with complete topographic, contour, and vegetation documentation across the 400-acre heritage site, supporting the client's UNESCO submission.
